It’s amazing how many things can be done with the paper of books, newspapers, magazines! I’m just discovering it and it really intrigues me a lot, so much so that I think I’ll try my hand at various experiments!

This time I do not propose something Christmas, as you have seen in previous posts, but a job that actually ended some time ago. These are two decorative panels that I simply made using glossy magazine paper . Even if it is not a very quick job, since it requires some preparation time to set aside all the necessary material, I assure you that it took me longer to find the “right moment” to attack them at the wall! And thank goodness my husband helped me!

The technique I used is decoupage. To be honest, the aesthetic result of traditional decoupage doesn’t make me mad, but one day several months ago I find out about “Paint your life” on Real Time, which I’m sure you all know, that decoupage can be done in various ways, using various types of media and various types of paper. I thought then: why not use paper readily available at no cost and in large quantities like that of magazines, as I had already done on the occasion of the “zero-cost stickers” for Alessio?

This is how these two panels were born to put in the corridor!

The equipment for this project is:

  • magazine sheets
  • paper scissors
  • cookie cutters
  • cerchiometro
  • ink pen
  • plywood panels (mine are 80 x 60 cm)
  • brown acrylic
  • vinyl glue
  • brushes
  • glossy finish paint
  • hooks and nails for hanging

I started wasting time looking at magazines and setting aside pages that had a lot of space with color. This time I often chose photos that had shades of various colors.
With an ink pen, whose line can be easily removed on the coated paper, I have designed various circumferences of various sizes, using the cookie cutters and the circlesometer.

I therefore cut out photos of skies, seas, sunsets and so on. A beautiful palette of colors came out of it!
I gave 2 hands of brown acrylic on the plywood panels, waiting for the time to dry them.

Working with the two panels placed next to it, I began to position the paper circumferences by color gradation, trying to find interesting shapes and combinations. It’s a pretty long job! Having reached a set of satisfying shapes and colors, I took pictures to see the general effect better.

I started to stick the paper forms with a brush dipped in vinyl glue, very little diluted (roughly in the proportions of 5 parts of glue with 1 of water).

When the vinyl glue dries, it will remain completely transparent as in the picture.

The next day I started passing several glossy finishing coats (waiting for the right drying times from each other), to make sure that the paper was incorporated rather evenly.
