Dupe for Urban Decay Naked Palette: Elf Cosmetics Beauty Book Neutral Eye Edition

A while ago on one of my shopping trips, I discovered that Elf Cosmetics has some new beauty books out for Spring 2011 and being a neutral lover, I was on the hunt for their neutral edition which was sold out at various Targets. When one of my girl friends (and loyal subscriber on my YouTube channel and this blog) found it, she picked it up for me knowing that I would want to add it to my collection. Well, that very same weekend I splurged and bought myself the Urban Decay Naked Palette which I have not stopped using ever since I bought it. So I went over to my friend’s house with a new love for Urban Decay and to my surprise, the brand new Elf Neutral Edition Beauty Book is a dupe for the Naked Palette. The company actually picked almost the exact same colors.

Yes, it is a copy cat. Now, I have always been a loyal Elf (Eyes Lips face) Cosmetics fan and own about 5 or 6 other of these beauty books but unfortunately I have to say this is not my favorite. The original Basic Eye Edition, which is still sold online, is MUCH MUCH better. If offers more plum colors and comes in a more sleek, sophisticated black edition and the pigmentation and formulation is wonderful. This edition is a good bargain but I think I spoiled myself with the Urban Decay Naked Palette. I bet if I bought the Elf palette first, I would have fallen in love with it. Although the colors are in the same family, the tones are not quite the same as the Naked Palette and of course the pigmentation is not up to par.

Elf cosmetics is known for offering great quality at great prices and I have to honestly say that they are still doing just that even with this palette. Urban Decay however, has opened my eyes to new higher end eye shadows that offer great pigmentation BUT that does not mean that I will betray and turn my back on a great company such as Elf Cosmetics. I have yet to discover any other cosmetic company that offers amazing quality and AFFORDABLE face products such as they do and quite frankly, I am not interested in finding any others.

Eye shadows however; now that’s another story. To me eye shadow colors and looks is an art. I don’t even want to count how many different palettes, compacts, quads, trios, duos and singles of colors I own in my entire collection (I imagine a couple hundreds, lol) and I still am constantly on the hunt for new colors and formulas that make painting on my own canvas fun and one of my most enjoyable hobbies.
