What is Ebru painting?

Ebru painting is a distinctiveĀ genreĀ of aqueous art used to produce mesmerizingĀ works. Particularly popular in Turkey and Central Asia,Ā Ebru paintings are produced using dyes, a water-based solution, and a set of unique tools.Ā Ebru works of art are created by transferring designs, patterns, and motifsĀ onto sheets of paper, fabric, and other canvases.

First, the artist mixes water with pigment andĀ kitre, a natural gum, to produce a dye.

The dyeĀ is then added to the surface of theĀ size,Ā a cellulose solution, and an awl is used toĀ manipulate the colors intoĀ designs and patterns.
